Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston reveal secret engagement
Couple kept on-again relationship secret
Bristol Palin was worried about how she was going to tell her mother that she’s engaged to marry Levi Johnston, the father of her 18-month-old son.
She solved the problem by telling a popular celebrity weekly magazine.
“We got engaged two weeks ago. It felt right, even though we don’t have the approval of our parents,” Palin told Us Weekly magazine in an exclusive story published Wednesday.
Question? With Bristol tattooed across his finger, does he really have much of a choice?
The magazine cover features a photo of a smiling Bristol and Levi with their son, Tripp. Inside, Bristol admits that she and Johnston had not told her parents, Sarah and Todd Palin, about the engagement.
“It is intimidating and scary just to think about what her reaction is going to be. Hopefully she will jump on board,” Bristol told the magazine. “I want her to know Levi has grown up and that he is going to be there as a dad.”

‘Redemption and forgiveness’
In a statement to NBC News, the Palins said, “Bristol at 19 is now a young adult. We obviously want what’s best for our children. Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives.
From Mercede's Facebook Page..
From the Orlando Sentinel:
Johnston’s family has taken its reaction to “Inside Edition.” They aren’t happy..The real point is: Who really thinks this is news? Palin and her messed up life have no business being called 'news.' She's a disgrace and her daughter is following in her footsteps.
Sarah stated in her 'mama grizzly' self promo video one line that struck me hard:
Moms kind of just know when something's wrong.'
Yeah, Sarah! If 'Moms kind of know' how come you didn't know when your son was doing drugs and getting into trouble? How come you didn't know when your daughter was screwing around and getting herself pregnant? In your own house!!! Moms kind of know?? Then why didn’t you KNOW while all that was happening? Well, this Mom knows why, because you’re self -centered which leads to self-destructive behavior, self-sabotaging of your life and those closest to you.. And if Bristol is to be believed you and Todd are not a big part of Bristol's life when it comes to her decision making. That again shows the Palin kids have no respect for their parents! And, the lack of proper parenting and tendency to exploit is being passed on.

Good stuff from Chuck Todd, who said on MSNBC this morning that his media colleagues are far too willing to hype Sarah Palin's every Facebook and Twitter update as huge news:
My only quibble is that Todd, in criticizing Palin for griping about media bias even as they lavish attention on her every Tweet, casts the media as passive victims in this process:
"I hope we don't hear from Sarah Palin about media bias anymore. Because it is amazing the ability this woman has to get media attention with as little as she does, whether it's a Twitter or a Facebook update, and she gets all this atttention."
Right, but media outlets aren't passive participants, compelled to lavish nonstop attention on Palin against their will. Rather, they actively make editorial choices on a regular basis to hype everything Palin says and does. So why wouldn't Palin continue to bash the lamestream media, when the media-bashing does absolutely nothing to dissuade them from playing along as she completely dictates the terms of her engagement with them?
The dirty secret here is that news orgs hype Palin's Tweets and Facebook missives because they drive clicks and traffic, not because they're newsworthy. Just ask the editors of Politico, which recently told its readers bluntly that Palin and the media have a "symbiotic relationship," because for the media, Palin is good "for the bottom line."
Result: No matter how many times people argue that the "symbiotic relationship" between Palin and the press isn't healthy for journalism, it continues unabated.
Some have argued that the media attention lavished on Palin has actually been a negative for her, as evidenced by her dropping approval ratings. But negative media attention actually plays in her favor. It plays into the narrative she's trying to construct, in which she's a warrior for a latter-day silent majority against pointy-headed eastern elites who are trying to destroy her because she represents the values and concerns of Real America. Negative attention only helps her tighten her emotional grip on her supporters. Palin keeps up the nonstop media bashing in order to feed this narrative.
Why on earth would she ever stop, if she pays no price for it?

JUNEAU, Alaska — A report filed with the Federal Elections Commission Sunday shows Sarah Palin's political action committee contributed at least $87,500 to candidates she's endorsed in the last few months.
But the financial disclosure filed by SarahPAC also shows Palin spending more than $210,000 on consulting.
Republican candidates receiving money from Palin for the period covering April 1 to June 30 include Terry Branstad, who is running for governor of Iowa, and Joe Miller, who's challenging Alaska U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski in the August Republican primary. Each received $5,000.
Among Palin's other high-profile endorsements: Republican Carly Fiorina, who's running for the U.S. Senate from California, received $2,500. But Nikki Haley, who's running for governor in South Carolina and for whom Palin made a campaign appearance, got no money, according to the filings.

Sarah Palin released a video Thursday that has the feel of an early campaign spot.
The video, titled "Mama Grizzlies," is produced by her political action committee and splices shots of Palin speaking and appearing with supporters and at tea party rallies.
Palin’s remarks in the video, which borrow heavily from her speech to the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, touts this year as the year of conservative women.
“This year will be remembered as a year when common sense conservative women get things done for our country,” Palin says at the beginning of the nearly two-minute video. “All across this country, women are standing up and speaking out for common sense solutions.”
As Palin speaks, the video shows images of women young and old watching Mrs. Palin and holding signs protesting the Democratic majority in Washington.
One elderly woman in the video is making her way through a tea party rally in a wheelchair with a “Don’t Tread on Me” sign on back.
Another sign reads: “Annoy Liberal: Work Hard & Pay Your Own Bills.”
“These policies coming out of D.C. right now, this fundamental transformation of America — well a lot of women concerned about their kids' futures are saying we don’t like this fundamental transformation and we’re going to do something about it,” Palin says. “It seems like it’s kind of a mom awakening in the last year and a half where women are rising up and saying ‘no, we’ve had enough already.’ Because moms sort of just know when something is wrong.
We’re going to turn this thing around. We’re going to get our country back on the right track,” she continued. “Look out Washington, cause there’s a whole stampede of elephants crossing the line and the e.t.a. for them stampeding through is November 2, 2010.”
