From David Frum
Conservatives and Republicans suffered their most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s.
It’s hard to exaggerate the magnitude of the disaster. Conservatives may cheer themselves that they’ll compensate for this expected vote with a big win in the November 2010 elections. But:
(1) It’s a good bet that conservatives are over-optimistic about November – by then the economy will have improved and the immediate goodies in the healthcare bill will be reaching key voting blocs.
(2) So what? Legislative majorities come and go. This healthcare bill is forever. A win in November is very poor compensation for this debacle now.
So far, I think a lot of conservatives will agree with me. Now comes the hard lesson:
A huge part of the blame for the disaster attaches to conservatives and Republicans ourselves.
[this is good] It's true that at the end of the day, Fox News and other conservative commentators are primarily about making money, and not necessarily about what is best for the Republican Party or the country. A certain ex Governor of Alaska could be included in those conservative commentators.

I have to say that I resent non-Americans manipulating and influencing our politics through their vast news conglomerate. Â I'm speaking of Murdoch and the other co-owners of his worldwide news holdings.

Blame Australia for Murdoch, he's not ours. The only reason he has American citizenship is so that he can expand his media empire into our country.Â

Oh I do blame Australia for him. Â However, I didn't know he was an American citizen. Â Are you certain of that?
Posted by: sjohnson | 03/24/2010 at 09:09 PM
Yeah, according to Wikipedia he had to acquire American citizenship (naturalization) to satisfy legal requirements that only American citizens own TV stations.Â

Thanks for the info. Â It is a sad state of affairs.

Believe me, we're not proud of him. Fortunately, there's no equivalent of Fox News here. I think he knows that no-one would advertise on it.

What are you saying? Â Are you implying that Aussies are smarter than Americans? Â I'm stunned and amazed! Â Stunned I tell ya'.

Never! Although I suppose I could make one exception in the case of the serial troll on Vox. ;o)
